Nope.

They don't look like good value at all to me!

I've just started using voip.co.uk myself

Also, they seem to be a bit 'tight'... Not wanting to pay much in bandwidth i guess

Preferred Codec/Vocoder list
1 : G729A (or G729A/B)
2 : ILBC
3 : PCMA

They don't support ULAW!

Well it looks like you get free calls every day which can't be to bad. hmm Ulaw, perhaps they support but it's just not preferred..after all that is for US right?

I think I will sign up and give it a go

It's not exactly 'for the US' its just used more there apparently.. ALAW used more in europe... also apparently!

Seems to me almost all VoIP comanies default to ULAW at moment :)

voip.co.uk are dirt cheap and they seem to have great call quality to go with it!

Would recommend them!

To quote off the voip wiki....

Quote:
There are two versions: A-law and U-law. U-law is indigenous to the T1 standard used in North America and Japan. The A-law is indigenous to the E1 standard used in the rest of the world. The difference is in the method the analog signal being sampled. In both schemes, the signal is not sampled linearly, but in a logarithmic fashion. A-law provides more dynamic range as opposed to U-law. The result is a less 'fuzzy' sound as sampling artifacts are better supressed.

well when I compare

voip.co.uk
UK 01/02* Peak/Off-peak/WE - 1p
UK Mobile* Peak - 15p/min
UK Mobile* Peak - 10p/min
UK Mobile* WE - 5p/min
Australia 2p

freespeech (no peak/off peak)
UK, country - 0.9p per min
UK, Mobile - 13.3/13.4p per min
Australia 1.3/1.2 etc...
plus they give 10mins free every day to about 10 destinations

I don't see how voip.co.uk can be cheaper ..am I missing something here?

Well, for £20 per year, or £2 per month, with voip UK you get evening and weekend calls of up to 60mins at no charge.

Daytime calls during week are 2p for up to 60mins.

Mobiles are a little more in the day, but cheaper at all other times.

voip.co.uk don't have best international rates, agreed.

Incoming calls cost usual rates for people, coz you get a normal geo number
