Firstly, thanks for all the comments and helpful replies to my post last
week - Thats it now!!

Well, I'm ready to go with my PAP2T from Broadband Buyer and I've chosen
Voipfone for simplicity.

I was setting up equiment last night, but the cable kept coming out of my
router and the modem one is broken too (they both work but fail to click in
as the ends have broken) I need some new RJ45 leads, but do I need the
crossover type or what?

From a router to an ATA normal straight-through cables will do. You only
need crossover cables when directly connecting two computers.

Voipfone are considerably more expensive than the Betamax companies,
for example, but a good service I think. The incoming call provision
is good. From what I remember they have a nice English, as distinct
from American, voice on the voicemail etc., as well as a 1471 feature,
which is not available on any other provider I've come across.[color=blue]

To go from router to ATA, just standard leads.

I'm happy with voipfone, I've been with them a year and had no problems.

I use them for all incoming calls (2 lines) and all outgoing calls not
covered by or more expensive than voipcheap.com (0800, 0870, 0500 etc)
also.... mobile dial back is great on a PAYG and ##166 telesales is
sooooo much fun.

Nearly. You need a crossover - serial or network - if you are connected
two units of the same type. So PC-PC yes, but also modem to modem,
router to router etc albeit many types (especially laptops and routers)
these days are self setting.

Note also a crossover cable only crosses (or technically only <needs> to
cross) pins 1 & 2 with 3 & 6 - it is not a mirror image connection.

(all of the above are assuming at least one of the devices does not have
auto cross-over)

I have a cheap Conexant EpicRouter (badged Sweeks) that was supplied
with a straight cable, but all four ports only work when connected to
NICs using crossover cables. Never understood why.
