Suggest you read eBay's regulations:

and the group charter

Like I have said many times Ivor STUFF YOUR CHARTER it means NOTHING
anyone can totally ignore the rubbish it contains and you can do
absolutely nothing about it and neither can anyone else for that
matter.

AFAICT, it would not be acceptible to advertise a specific sale.

On the other hand, Ivor tells me that you could link to your (ebay)
shop by way of the url in your signature, presumably as long as you
don't draw any attention to a specific item or product range in your
post. (that's assuming it's not against Ebay's policy to do so)

Also, if I understand correctly, someone who doesn't benefit from an
advertisement could post details of a sale that they have happened
across - in the same way that many regulars here point people to
specific manufacturers, or suppliers.

You could ROT13 the URL, post it, then someone who isn't you could un-rot it
and post it. However, I really don't think posting a link to it here is
going to benefit you, as most people in this froup are knowledgeable enough
to avoid Skype :-)

What conclusion is he supposed to come to by so doing?

The Ebay reference says, in effect, not to do anything which violates
senet - Ebay itself doesn't *care*.

The charter says that advertising is forbidden but that URLs for appropriate
commercial sites etc. may appear in signatures. So all the OP needs to do to
be squeaky clean is to stick the URL of his Ebay sale in his signature.

Having said that, it is extremely moot whether embedding a URL of an Ebay
item in the body of a message actually constitutes advertising. I personally
don't think it does - and I would just do it.
