Which is true, surely..? Are you saying that someone advertising here
*isn't* spam..?

None of those quotes seem relevant, I must be missing something. But it's
been a long day, maybe it'll come to me.

Feel free. Feel free to "plonk" me as well if you can be "arsed" - I won't
care.

The OP was not advertising anything.

Grow up.

Ivor, get a life... outside of here, I mean! Got get some fresh air,
and stop policing this NG. And stop feeding the trolls.

I don't mind if somebody posts an announcement on a new service, device
or software - even if the NG charter forbids advertising.

As far as the post can be useful to the community, it's welcome by me.

If I see something that I consider against the charter, I will speak out.
If that's a problem, it's not mine.

Nor do I, if that's all it is. The OP was spamming. That's why the charter
forbids advertising.

Fine, let them post it elsewhere. You're not limited to one newsgroup.

Old geezers among us will possibly remember Esther Rantzen <hawk-spit) and her
dire programme "That's Life" <groan> on the idiot box.

Wasn't there an item featuring Cyril Fletcher <aahhh> as a pompous prat posing
as 'jobsworth of the week', resplendant in a golden peaked cap?

What's *your* hat size, Ivor?

Who's that? It sounds interesting... rather than signup with a million VOIP
providers in the hope the expensive ones will have better call quality
rather just be ripoffs.

Ivor, for goodness sake, look at the huge thread you have created. The
OP asked a simple question - once. Yes, once. They advertised nothing.
Understand that? Any sane person could not possibly call that spam. Only
a raving lunatic could call it spam "Because it might lead to
advertising in the future"

You are making yourself look like a completely obsessive fool.

Go and read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsgroup_spam

Extract:-

"Usenet convention defines spamming as excessive multiple posting, that
is, the repeated posting of a message (or substantially similar messages)."

Perhaps we should add an entry "Ivor Spam"

A unique definition of spam by an eccentric forum user where spam is any
message that he thinks of as spam based on a sliding randomly
logarithmic scale based on the lack of any advertising or promotion of
any commercial product or service within the message.
