Default 1899 billing question

I am an NTL customer on 1899 and pay 4p connection charge and 1p per minute
to uk calls. I have just noticed for the past few months I have been charged
an extra 2p on every call made ?, or have I got it wrong. A 2 Minute call
should cost 6p not 8p ?, or have I lost the plot. I have sent them an email,
is there any danger they will correct it or am I wasting my time even
trying. Never had problems for the past couple of years.

The NTL - VirginMedia connection charge appears to have gone up to 6p,
and all calls are now 'rounded up' to the nearest minute, so a call of 1
minute and 1 second is now charged as a 2 minute call.

The OP will be using an 0808 number to access 1899. This does not have
a connection fee from VM.

I use one of these outbound providers as well, and ntl charge me 11p extra
per month on "calls".. I have chased this up to try and find out where the
11p comes from but they have no idea, I would need to pay to find out why
they mis-charge me :/...

1899 says it uses 0808, and ntl only charge a 6p connection charge for calls
that is chargeable.... freephone is not chargable so you shouldnt need to
pay the 6p connection charge either.....

I would go complain!

To be honest... I would just phone and say "Hey, How much does an 0808 call
cost?"... and when they say 0p connect/ 0p per min then I'd ask them to
clear the bill :) ...

On the other hand I would suspect they will ask what the full number
is and explain that call-thru numbers are treated differently!

Afaik they are not. I know 2 people who use the 0808 from cable and
neither has told me that there is a charge. I think if they introduced
a charge they would move back to BT.

Here are a couple of links to Virgin Media call charges in pdf format,
there is no mention of 0800 call prices, or 0808 call prices, so
presumably they must be free.

Seems to be a bit of confusion, the connection charge is made by 1899 not
NTL so why do 1899 charge for connecting via the 0808 I guess is the real
question. A poster states the connection charge for connecting via cable has
gone from 4p to 6p, is does not show this on the 1899 site.. I think they
are being a bit naughty doing this. Bet they do not reply to my email. I
have just signed up to 18185 so let see if they charge their advertised 4p
connection for cable customers.

Because it costs them money to receive/answer your call?

Or do you think that telcos allow 0800/0808 calls to traverse their
networks for free?

You are missing the point, I have no objection to being charged 4p
connection by 1899, but the seem to be overcharging me by 2p on each call
and the website states 4p not 6p. Just by the by, why if you have a BT line
your uk calls are free and cable customers pay 1p per minute ?. Yes I
realise Telco's need to make money and they do.
