If you scroll down to the bottom of the page on the following link from
the 1899 website, it says that calls 'within' the UK are subject to a 5p
connection charge.

I am not missing your point. You asked multiple questions, I answered
one of them.

Maybe they have to pay more for calls from NTL customers than they do
from BT customers?

Yes that is if you are a BT customer, if you click on cable customers page
you will see a 4p connection. It is clear that they are charging me 6p
connection charge and it is not shown on the site.

Is there any other viewer of this post who connects via cable being charged
6p connection or 4p ?.

well it seems from bad to worse, made my first call using 18185 to a mobile
yesterday, call cost 2p per minute and 4p connection, a 30 second call shows
7p not 6 as it should. Are this outfit going from bad to worse or are my
maths poor ?.

Your maths & your English, by the look of it ;-)

Rates are in pence per minute. Calls are billed per minute rounded to
the nearest penny, include 17,5% VAT and are subject to change. Calls
are subject to a 4p connection fee or 5p for calls within the UK. For a
printable version, click <http://www.call18185.com/rates_printer.php>

Thanks for the comment on the English /, wish I was perfect however you are
wrong, you are quoting the rates for a BT customer..Cable rates are
http://www.call18185.com/mobilerates.php 4p connection to anywhere and my
mobile call was 30 seconds at 2p per minute. Should be 6p not 7. I might be
stupid but I am not that thick.

Once registered you can call our access number 0808 1 703 703 (freephone) or
020 81 80 2828 (local rate). Wait for the voice prompt and dial the number
you would like to call. That's all! (A 4p connection fee applies to all
calls.)

radioham expressed precisely :

Surely they're the mobile rates...?

Anyway, it clearly states on the main rates page that the connection
charge for calls made within the UK is 5p, not 4p.

Therefore, your 30 second call to a mobile at 2ppm should have cost
7p.....which it did.

It also appears that this may have come into effect today
