I also have three Linux servers, an Asterisk phone system running under Linux, two Windows 2003 servers and a Linux workstation here. I use Windows on the desktop because I need to run the same software as my clients. I use Linux on the desktop becuase I need to run the same software as my clients. I support enterprise level Windows & Linux server based networks that span the world. I build and support Linux web servers that run major web sites. I have designed and built a Linux based anti-spam system that we deploy in front of Microsoft Exchange servers. It's called using the right tools for the job so please don't start another stupid OS war because you are talking to somebody who has his feet in both camps and understands the strengths and weaknesses of each. |

With vast quantities of data being routed through any computer, there is enough sample data available to make it just a matter of time before it is finally compromised. In my humble opinion...... |

MI5/6 CIA, but they probably have access from Skype already ?) to crack it, just to listen to people rabbit on the phone ? Yes, you could create a Skype compatible application, but then they will just change the encryption... Regards, Martin |

You have a "buddy list" sort of thing like IM clients have, and you can see your buddies presence information [available, offline, busy, Skype Me, etc]. Using such a system through a 12 button phone handset would be a bit of a nightmare. So for that reason, I can't see a standalone Skype ATA making much sense. Skype do have Skype In where you can get yourself a PSTN phone number that points to your Skype username, but this costs money and they only have five UK area codes. Give that Sipgate can give you any area code in the UK for free, it seems like a bit of a bust unless you've already invested money in Skype hardware [for example]. So for that reason, I can't see a standalone Skype ATA making much sense. Skype also have Skype Out where you can call PSTN numbers, but again, their rates aren't particularly impressive compared to other VoIP providers. So for that reason, I can't see a standalone Skype ATA making much sense. Of course, just because I can't see the point from an end-user's perspective of buying or using such a device, doesn't mean that one isn't being made and sold as we speak. -- <http://ale.cx/> (AIM:troffasky) (UnSoEsNpEaTm@ale.cx) 18:30:21 up 3 days, 22:12, 2 users, load average: 0.23, 0.19, 0.12 This is my BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMSTICK |

When a call comes into my office and I'm at home, my voip data is sent over and encrypted VPN link from the office to home without going anywhere else. |
