Default Cordless handset for Skype?

What recommendations have you for a cordless setup for VOIP. I use Skype often and would love to not be tethered to my computer.

I expect that bluetooth can somehow accomplish this and if so, what hardware is required?

Is there a lower cost alternative that works reasonably well?

TIA

Welcome to the forum Odessey.

I was looking at a device that offers exactly what your looking for last night. I haven't used it myself yet, so cant advise as to the quality of the product, however its made by netgear, a company who i have been %110 happy with in the past. Having just said that, i think its on pre-order only at the moment.

Take a look here - http://tools.netgear.com/skype/

Assuming you have a wireless router, what your looking for is a Wifi Voip phone, that is Skype compatible. Make sure that is specifies Skype, as most wifi phones only work with SIP providers, which Skype doesn’t offer.

Matt

matt, thanks for yours. For clarification, I use a wired ethernet and do not have wifi.

Also, looked at the link. The phone looks good, but at $299, this is way over the amount I want to put into cutting the cord. A bluetooth headset can be had for 25 or so quid, plus card (?-don't quite know how bluetooth works and what hardware needed)

Hmm,

So your just wanting to use bluetooth. If you ask me i'd invest in a wireless router. Bluetooth is only really useable in a 9m range, with no objects in the way.

I actually use my bluetooth headset from my mobile on my computer, ( http://www.jabra.com/JabraCMS/EM/EN/...JabraBT500.htm ), and have that setup using Xten softphone just fine. I'd have to play about to let you know if it'll work with skype.

But as i said before, you much better off using WIFI.

If you dont have bluetooth on your computer you can use a dongle, like this one ---> http://www.filesaveas.com/belkinusb.html

Having just played about, you'll need an addon application to use bluetooth headsets with skype.
