It seems as though there are very few "generic" VoIP Wi-Fi phones on the market. The very good looking netgear device is linked to Skype or Messenger which is frustrating. Anyone know of any plans for a similar generic phone?
Thanks a lot, Rupert

I think the Linksys EIP300 WiFi VoiP phone would appear to be vendor idependent but don't quote me on it. It is a sip phone and I'm not sure that is what you want as I've heard they can be a bit of a nightmare in internet cafes doing some sort of DNS-redirect-login-screen thing to sign in to their service. I think that Netgear are about to bring out an independant wifi phone as well.
However if you are after a value for money wifi phone Edge-Core do the WM4201 Wi-Fi Phone for users that are looking for a mobile and easy-to-use IP wifi voip phone. It does however come with skype pre loaded on it. sorry I couldn't be any more help ![]()

mobile/cell phones with sip and wifi are a great choice if you have a mobile contract anyway. i use the nokia n80i (n80 flashed to internet edition to give sip functionality) so far testing has proved it to be pretty good for sip calls, only downside so far is batterylife if leaving it connected all day. the nokia eseries phones are the main ones to look at. i think the newer ones (inc n95?) are going to have improved firewall/nat abilities -but Im not sure on that.
