I bought a Ikino Voice 200 USB VOIP phone which was bundled with Skype. However, I'm trying to use the phone with VOIPCHEAP. I've loaded the phone drivers and it works great with VOIPCHEAP, only none of the buttons on the phone work. I have to use the number pad and the connection/disconnection buttons on VOIPCHEAP software to make any calls.
If I load up the Skype software that was bundled with the phone, all of the phone buttons work great, but they just won't work on VOIPCHEAP. Is this a common thing with VOIP USB phones in that the buttons will only work with Skype, because most of them seem to be bundled with Skype alone? Can anyone recommend a VOIP phone where the buttons will work with VOIPCHEAP? Just trying to simplify everything for the wife and kids. Thanks. |

Having just visited the VoIPCheap home page, i bet you using their softphone program.
What i recommend you do is download the free version of the xten softphone available here: http://xten.com Install and setup with your VoIPCheap Sip Details: Username: Your VoipCheap username Password: Your VoipCheap password SIP/Proxy registrar: sip.voipcheap.com Domain/Realm (optional): voipcheap.com STUN server: stun.voipcheap.com

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I was trying to use the VOIPCHEAP softphone. I tried the link you provided and couldn't find any softphone called xten (please excuse my ignorance). I'm presuming you meant the X-Lite version? I've downloaded it and done the settings as suggested, although the version I downloaded seems to differ slightly to the one for which the site provides the manual. However, I appear to still have the problem where the phone buttons don't work. The phone I am trying to set up with the VOIPCHEAP connection is http://www.johnlewis.com/Computing/A...2/Product.aspx. Is there a switch or something that I need to set in X-Lite to make it work? Can't seem to find one anywhere. The buttons work great if you load Skype, which it came bundled with. But they don't work going through the VOIPCHEAP softphone. Also, do the buttons on the USB phones tend to work with X-Lite or am I just trying to do something that won't happen anyway? Appreciate any help you can give. |

Randal,
Some VoIP hardware manufactures "lock" their hardware at their clients request (Skype). This could be the case with you phone as seen as it came bundled with Skype. However, i'm not sure of this. Quote:

I suggest removing all drivers and software for the phone. Plug your USB phone back in, but don't run any software installs from the CD. Instead install just the driver by using the windows device manager, and telling it to search the CD. In X-Lite the USB phone settings are here: User settings, system settings, USB Settings. I was going to suggest to make sure you have the updated drivers, however i cant find the manufacturers site anywhere!

Thanks again. Tried everything you discussed, but all to no avail. I think you're right that the phone may have been 'locked' by the manufacturer so that it only fully works with Skype. Hence, I will take it back for a refund and try and seek out something else that will work. In your experiance, any recommendations for a USB phone where the buttons may/would work with VOIPCHEAP, in reality something that won't be locked to Skype? Ideally, I would like to get some form of cordless variety. Any ideas? Again, appreciate any advice/info you have. Randal |
