Default USB - RJ11

I have one called a USB Telbox. I've had endless trouble since I bought it because it takes it's power from the USB port and frequently overloads it on switch-on.

Default Usb to Rj11 (ATA) Adaptor

I have a B2K voip box and I am currently staying with some friends in the usa,it sems to work fine here,as it did at home all over the country.

zebedee, perhaps you could get a powered usb adaptor or something if thats what you thinks causing it.What other devices have you got plugged in to draw that much power anyway?

That was the only USB device that was plugged into the USB sockets on the front of the PC. All other USB devices using using a 4-port USB pci card.

I eventually gave up the 'softphone' route and went for a Sipura SPA-841 phone. I also signed up for a Spanish DID in Malaga with Gradwell and it works very well indeed. As I use VoIP extensively for calls to Spain, a Spanish DID makes it cheaper (€0.05/min) for contacts there to call me back again.

Only gripe about the SPA-841 is that it has a grotty keypad.

when i first got skype i like the idea of the usb adaptors, but now ive seen the light and you can get a sip gateway to go between phone and router so you can leave your pc off, such a better solution in my case so i no longer feel its worth invesing in a usb one. although they are cheap now.

Ive seen on of the linksys ATA's which really are about the same price and look a lot better and more reliable and as you say dosent require a PC. So I think i'll pass on these. Just need to save the pennies for a real IP phone.

Why a real IP phone?

Why not a Linksys PAP2 ?

I seem to like ATA's myself!

But may have to try a real IP phone i suppose...

Ahh, they do look the business yes.

But is it wireless?

Getting a wired IP phone would annoy me, i don't think people understand how much they rely on cordless phones now.

Going back to being stuck in one location is not great!

Depends what your using it for, if it's to go on a desk for business type use.. Fine... But if someone knocks at the door? You'll ware your hold button out

True I've never thought of that before. Its just become taken for granted now that I can go anywhere with the phone.
