Default Cisco 79xx series - free goodies

If anyone owns a Cisco 79xx series IP phone, I've made a collection of ring tones and images for the LCD screen to download.

I've added simple instructions how to install them, but feel free to ask if you have any questions.

I love this phone, best I've ever used. I've just added an internet based telephone A-Z directory which runs from the services button.

Please feel free to help yourself and play:

Thats a very handy collection of bits and bobs....

Where did you get yours from?

I've been using softphones at the office up until now, but i think it may be time to make the leap in to a fully fledged IP phone.

Matt
I bought mine through a guy who was recommended to me on ebay (davidboyce). The Cisco phone normally retails at around £220 and as new, comes configured for use via Cisco's call manager. But Cisco also make a SIP firmware to convert it to operate as a normal IP phone.

It's a very high quality phone. Very clear audio, plenty of volume, large LCD display, loads of features. Mine is secondhand, you can pick them up for around £120 with the SIP 7.5 firmware installed and ready to go.

I had a Grandstream Budgetone 101 before this, but missed the ability to be able to store numbers. Also the sound quality wasn't the best. So, I asked around for what would be a good quality phone ands everyone I spoke to said this Cisco model was like the Rolls Royce of IP phones. So, I took the plunge and I'm very pleased I did. I've been very pleased with it. Took a bit of getting my head around how to set up the config file, which isn't as user friendly as some, but it just sits there now doing it's job.

I was very sceptical about spending this amount of cash at first, but I now tell people this phone was the best IT investment I ever made. I truly love it!

I've just added a php script which parses RSS xml newsfeeds from around the web and displays them on the phone.

The script isn't my own, but I have unpacked that tar.gz file for it and zipped it up with it's original file structure. All you have to do is upload it to your webspace. I have included a news.htm file to get you started (You will need to point the links in the news.htm file to point to the path of your website).

Just add the feed urls for the newsfeeds of your choice. You'll find the download at the bottom of my page:

For more information about the script, visit:

If you learn or discover any new scripts that enable services for the Cisco 79xx, let me know. Cheers!
