Default Motorola VT1005

Hello,

I've got a technical problem i hope u can help me out with.

Details:
operating system: MS windows XP pro.

Digital phone adapter: Motorola VT1005 (if i got it correct, i connect any regular phone to it to adapt it to a 'digital' one, am i right?)

ISP provider: NTL cable

Modem: NTL home 250 cable modem

I tried connecting the cable modem to the VT1005, but my phone doesnt seem to have a dial tone.
Also, tried to connect the modem to VT1005 to the computer. This doesn't work and furthermore, my computer cannot detect a network.

Any comments? If I can use skype to call out, why can't my digital phone adapter work?

Thanks in advance!
