Default Linksys WRT54G wireless router QOS Anomolies

Hi Folks
I have the above wireless router (version 1.1 with latest firmware) connected to Telewest's Blueyonder service via a Surfboard Cable Modem with Freetalk and Vonage's ATA's (pap2) connected to LAN ports. With the latest firmware upgrade to the router there now appears a Quality of Service option. I configured this to give Freetalk the Highest QOS and Vonage set at High. However, once I enabled this the Vonage quality degraded rather badly to a gurgling noise whilst in calls! When I disabled QOS everything went back to normal! Anyone experienced something similar? Is there a way of using QOS with this router without getting the problems I have experienced?
Thanks
Fred.

Fred,

QoS isn't too important if your using VoIP in a home environment at the end of the day. If there is only you using your net connection, then you know when your downloading a fat whopping file and stealing all the bandwidth! Whats more important is not having any file sharing programs like limewire running, they use up most your upload, and is a killer on voip.

If i was you i'd just disable it. Im on a netgear router which doen't offer QoS, and so far i've never run in to any issues with bandwith (4meg ADSL MAX connection).

If you have more than 2 computer using your net connection then i'd maybe look in to this issue a little more. Sorry i've not shed any helpful light!

Matt

Hi Matt
There are 4 pc's connected to the network but rarely more than 2 used at any one time. I think you are right about the QOS-I will leave it disabled as it seems to cause more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for your help.
Fred.

Hi acoolwelshbloke
How did you set up your QOS on your Linksys router if I may ask?

Hi acoolwelshbloke
God knows what happened to your post but I definately saw it earlier today! Thanks for the screen shot of your Router Admin QOS pages. I had mine set up very similarly to yours except I didn't play around with the manual upstream rate. I tried to adjust it but kept getting warnings that if I manually set the upstream bandwidth it will negate the benefot of previous QOS settings!
