Default Lots of changes coming!

Just a quick note to let you know there is lots planned for the forum in the coming week or so.

First off, we may have secured a sponsor of the site - which will cover the costs of hosting. I'm also considering moving the forum over to the paid vBulletin forum software.... (still weighing up the advantages, it'll take me AGES to re-skin the forum to how it looks now)

I’m about to put live a section of the site that will run separately from the forum. It will predominately hold all reviews of VoIP hardware, software, and providers, but i may also include the news feed too. Not quite sure yet.. but its coming soon anyway!

I have my first instalment of hardware to review sat by my desk. A couple of office VoIP phones. I’ll use them for a week or so, then write up a review for all to see. I expect more to come in over the next month from other suppliers, and those of you who have expressed their interest in reviewing already, I’ll be in touch with.

While im working hard on all these developments, this is a good time for you to suggest any changes/improvements that you would like to see.

PM me, or drop a message in this thread to have your suggestions heard!

Thanks

Matt

If if it makes any difference i really like the look of the forum as it is. Clean, simple and easy to read. What are the advantages of the paid software?

vBulletin is obvioulsy a propper company, with paid clients so I think the general consensus is that it should be a better product. Now i have heard many people rant on about how insecure phpbb is, and how vBulletin isnt, so that was my main concern really.

After chatting about with few people, the gist is that as long as your running the very latest version of the board software you should be okay.

That, and the fact that re writing the forum to look the same on vBulletin would take me a life time, has helped me make the decision to stick with phpbb. The money i have saved i will invest in a nifty little reviewing program that should integrate nicely with the forum.

Im working on that as we speak, and im hoping to have it ready for the end of the month.

Eye,

Obviously my main objective is to make the site much more helpful/user friendly. But it will have the added advantage of grabbing more traffic in and helping to bump up the site listings on the major search engines.

The review function will operate in a similar way to the forum, with registered users being able to add a formatted review, with a picture, and rating scale and a host of other things.

Its getting it all to integrate with the existing forum so that peopl don't have to register twice etc thats the hard bit!

Close to putting it live, just working on graphical stuff at the moment, sneak peak here http://ukvoiptalk.com/reviews/

The systems runs entirely off the forum user systems so your existing registration will work with it.
