Hi there
I am looking to learn new IPPBX systems and I have been told to go and look at Asterisk. The problem is that I do not know where to start. The are lots of different versions, sites etc. So where would do I go first? I am looking to learn how to install, configure and maybe alittle bit of development work on it Andy |

Hi Andy,
I would suggest you being to look at "Trixbox". Trixbox is a collection of open source software all mashed up in to one easy install. It includes the operating system (a version of centos I believe), asterisk itself, and a whole host of other nifty little things that make running an asterisk box a little easier. Trixbox is the new Asterisk@home by the way, so dont get confused. I recommend you head over here, Current Downloads | trixbox , download the ISO you need, burn, install on a spare box, and start playing! Matt Any other questions just fire them my way!

Thank you Matt
Though I have to admit I did not know there was an @home version? What is the difference between the full blown and @home versions.. ? Well me practice on the @homeversion allow me to understand the workings of the full? So when I come to use the full I will know what I am doing etc. My goal is to eventually build a phonesystem in a box. So server, software, ISDN cards, phones etc.. But I know I have a long way to go until I can do this, thats why I want to start at the basics and work my way into it Again many many thanks Andy |
