Skype is Hype

One of the most annoying things uttered these days is "I've got Skype". How sad. Haven't they tried anything else?

I think that SIP-based services are far better, but they've failed to capture the public's imagination. SkypeOut rates look OK, but SkypeIn has been beset with problems. I've used SIP-based services with both UK and US numbers, and they've worked fine. They also work better with hardware than Skype. There is still no telephone adapter that you can use with Skype - either you use a USB phone with a PC, or get an IP phone.

I have to tell people that they only use Skype becasue they don't know any better, but they might as well be in a brainwashing cult.
