Default VoIP Advantages and Disadvantages, add yours here...

While cost-saving is often looked at as the fundamental reason for choosing VoIP as a telephony system, having voice broken down into packets for transmission comes with other advantages.

Routing and re-routing of call data is easier, and quicker. Follow-me type clients are easily implemented - wherever you have an IP address (or internet connection) you can receive calls on your number.

What other advantages have you had form your VoIP telephony so far?

The main advantage so far has been getting access to all the services I would have to pay extra for with a normal PSTN provider eg call waiting/3 way calling/personailsed voicemail/call forwarding. I am looking forward to testing out my Freetalk when I go on holiday to see if I can benefit from low cost calls to the UK from abroad.

Having a static mainline number, in more than one place!

One of my office numbers is VoIP, and 01325 number for Darlington.

Wen't away to America for a few days, took my softphone on the laptop, bingo.

People didn't have a clue i wasn't in sunny old Darlington.
