Denyer,
Can you get hold of both the sipgate, and the open firmware? If you can i suggest you have a play about with the open one. I cant see how they can stop you using their service if your on the open firmware. Can you not punch in standard SIP details for sipgate, rather than using an import from the MAC code? Be interested in what you find out.... Matt

hi there matt some good news! opened the firmware via sipgate and they warn u all configurations will be lost and ur no longer be able to use sipgate, anyway after the upgrade all the configurations are still the same and this time they allow u to add another line (2) which was blocked last time. hooray!! in the process now of adding a provider that offers free calls to uk landlines, has a cheap tariff for phoning mobiles and of good quality. can u recommend any? was thinking of giving voipcheap.co.uk a go. what do you advice. thanks for ur time.

Been using voipcheap to call the states and uk friends for a while, sometimes its crystal, sometimes not.The delay of up to a second can be quite annoying sometimes, but like all voip providers,I think it depends on the isp you use,the path it takes and all sorts of other things, like network traffic on any given route. If its bad, just hang up and try again,it usually works! Look for a provider with QOS (quality of service) reporting, that might be the way forward in some cases.
How much did you pay for that box btw?? I want one! |

Sounds like a good deal. Have you seen the o'reily hack on voip for connecting up your house phones with the unused wires on bt/ntl installations? Just connect master sockets to an unused pair next to the existing sockets.
(my neighbours must love me,all these phones ringing all over the house!) |
