Default VoiP Research and Future

Hi there

I'm a complet newbie in the topic of VoIP. Two days ago I received the job to prepare a presentation with the title "Research and Future of VoIP".

Therefore, I spent some hours researching the topic to get a feeling about how VoIP works and its pro and cons. I think generally there are the following open issues where research for proper solutions is focused:

* Encryption of the audio data (refering to this press release)
* VoIP spam
* VoIP sniffing
* VoIP phishing
* Improvments in QoS
* Emergency calls

One challenge for the future is to bring the different nets (GSM, UMTS, WLAN) together to offer the users a homogenous environment. There are already some solutions/products in this field but it has to become more convenient in usability. But there seem to be also some business restrictions...

What do you think about this topics? Anything to add?

I'd be very grateful if some experts of VoIP could help me what the actual challenges are and in which direction the future of VoIP points. Maybe someone has good links about some research projects at universities or research companies.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

So long,
Ruth
