Randal,

Some VoIP hardware manufactures "lock" their hardware at their clients request (Skype). This could be the case with you phone as seen as it came bundled with Skype.

However, i'm not sure of this.

I tried the link you provided and couldn't find any softphone called xten (please excuse my ignorance). I'm presuming you meant the X-Lite version?
Yes, sorry that is the version i intended you to download.

I've downloaded it and done the settings as suggested, although the version I downloaded seems to differ slightly to the one for which the site provides the manual.
Don't worry about that, providers have often written their tutorials/guides a few years ago on older versions on the softphones. They will still be relevant however, and will tell you all you need to know.

I suggest removing all drivers and software for the phone. Plug your USB phone back in, but don't run any software installs from the CD. Instead install just the driver by using the windows device manager, and telling it to search the CD.

In X-Lite the USB phone settings are here: User settings, system settings, USB Settings.

I was going to suggest to make sure you have the updated drivers, however i cant find the manufacturers site anywhere!
