*** Oh no, not this **** again ***
Update January 1st 2008 (Happy New Year!)
It was in the mid 1990s when I first experienced the ‘Internet
Phenomenon’, and not soon after I became aware of a character called
Mike Corley who firmly believed he was being persecuted by the MI5
through a campaign of covert surveillance, hidden cameras, staged
encounters and casual remarks uttered by nearby ‘strangers’ (set up by
MI5) and, spookily, by radio and television presenters and celebrities
equipped with technology that allowed them to see Mike through his TV
and radio.
Over the years, Mike’s extraordinary volume of repeat postings on UseNet
seemed to follow me around, but I dismissed their appearance as random
and not aimed at me – after all, how could a person that was so angry at
his harassment inflict similar treatment on not only me, but also the
entire usenet population? But still, in the back of my mind, I was
convinced that wherever I looked I could see Mike’s messages – it was as
if he had access to my webcam and could see which newsgroups I visited,
thus allowing him to flood them with his repeat messages outlining what
he believed to be cases of persecution. I soon discovered how to
killfile Mike’s postings because he very thoughtfully used groups of the
same words in his subject line.
But then in late 2007, Mike changed tactics in order to once again
intrude on me – he started to insert random characters and spaces into
the subject title, this avoiding my filters. All of a sudden Mike had
conspired to get back in my life and was making my visits to my
favourite newsgroups a complete nightmare. I even noticed complete
strangers near me using words like ‘again’ and ‘more’ – surely they
aren’t referring to the fact that I was seeing more of his posts again?
Coincidence? I think not. I even noticed the weather presenters on BBC
News 24 using the word ‘rain’, which is an anagram of ‘Nair’ – and I
used to work with someone with that surname about the time I first
noticed Mike’s postings on UseNet all those years ago – the circle is
complete.
Mike, what are you trying to do to me? Why do I deserve this? I have
read your posts, visited your web site, we both know you need help so
why persecute us innocent usenet people – you are challenging your
perceived persecution by persecuting others - surely even you can see
that by adopting the tactics you so abhor many will suggest you have
turned into the biggest paranoid hypocrite on the Internet? Log off Mike
and leave me alone – you are ruining my UseNet life!
