The HFC cards are "generic" ISDN cards. Using the mISDN drivers they
"just work"...
My pbx-inna-box uses a Debian variant (booting from flash) and works
just fine with HFC cards...
So if you take the time to compile up your own asterisk & modules, etc.
then it might be worth it for you.

Maybe you need the GUI front-end independant of the underlying asterisk,
etc. so just install FreePBX after asterisk?
